The Baby Protector (Wolf Shifters 0f Wakerlin Book 3) Page 7
Even though Luther was now bleeding, it was clear the necklace made him very powerful. He seemed to have the same abilities to withstand injuries as a wolf. The only way to finish him off was a blow to the heart, the head, or the neck.
Dominque forced his body to move. He was now so weak and injured, he knew that another blow like that would surely kill him. Yet, he still got up. He ran towards Luther, who was too outnumbered to shoot beams and had constructed a shield around him. Nevertheless, Dominque lunged, and he did something he had only read of but never succeeded of doing.
He imagined the wolf inside him and concentrated it, molding it. He collected whatever power he had and then he projected it. He projected it straight towards Luther’s shield. He felt the power rush through him and hit the shield. There was a battle of power between the two, and then the shield shattered.
“You! Stay down!” Luther shouted, his eyes wide with fury. He raised his hand to deliver a blow to Dominque, who was now too weak to dodge. Yet again, the beam never reached him. Instead, Luther gave a blood curdling scream as a knife pierced his chest. The mayor had managed to sneak behind him when Luther was distracted by Dominque. The moment the shield shattered, he took his silver dagger and pierced Luther, straight through his heart.
Luther collapsed, his eyes wide and vacant, a pool of blood spreading through his chest. The mayor walked over to Dominque and looked him in the eye. “I think it’s time we become friends,” he said.
Dominque looked back at him and then bowed. “Yes. I think it is.”
Epilogue
Isabella woke up in her bed, her head resting on Dominque’s chest. Dominque’s arm was around her, holding her close. Isabella sighed, looking up at his handsome face.
Over a month had passed since the battle, and the pack was slowly healing. Elder Lawson had managed to get to her in time, to save her from dying from the silver poisoning. Dominque, on the other hand, was in critical condition for over a week. He was so ill that there was a time when everyone had prepared for his demise.
Isabella felt her heart wrench as she remembered that painful time. She still remembered when Dominque had opened his eyes, after a week of being unconscious. She had been sitting beside him when he opened his beautiful eyes and softly moaned her name.
She almost burst into tears. Elder Lawson told him that he needed to be on strict bed rest, and that as fast as he was at healing, even his body was about to give up. Taylor thankfully recovered as well.
The pack numbers dwindled again, but those that remained were healing, getting stronger day by day. The human pup was back with his parents, and his tearful mother had thanked Isabella repeatedly for looking after him.
Isabella pulled herself away from her memories and softly caressed Dominque’s cheek. “Wake up,” she whispered.
Dominque groaned and pulled her into a tighter hug. Isabella gave a small laugh and softly kissed his lips. “Wake up, sleepy head. You have a meeting with the mayor,” she whispered again.
Dominque gave another groan and then opened his eyes. “Hello, beautiful,” he said, softly kissing her forehead.
Isabella felt such a rush of love for him that she started to shower his face in kisses. Dominque gave a short laugh and said, “Hey! What did I do to deserve so much love?”
“You made my soul happy,” Isabella whispered. Dominque raised an eyebrow and suddenly flipped her over, starting to trail kisses down her chest.“Dominque!” Isabella gasped, as Dominque started to lick her smooth skin. They were interrupted by a knock on the door and Taylor’s booming voice.
“Dominque. It is getting late, man. The humans are waiting,” he shouted. Dominque groaned and got up.
“I swear, I am gonna fire Taylor. Always interrupting when things are getting good,” he said. Isabella laughed and kissed his cheek.
“Go get them, tiger,” she said. Dominque sighed and then spanking her butt lightly, left to get dressed.

Dominque sat at the table, with the mayor and his council. His own friends and council members sat with him, waiting for the mayor to speak.
The mayor cleared his throat and said, “First of all, I would like to thank you for protecting and looking after our son. We have always thought of werewolves as evil, something that needed to be exterminated. You have proved that it is not so. You had my child and yet you treated it with love. I now see that you are kindhearted, and how we are at fault for misjudging. Hence, I apologize, from my side and from my ancestors as well. Neither this battle, nor the one twenty years ago, should have happened. I apologize.” The mayor then bowed, before resuming.
“I would like to propose a new treaty. A treaty where both humans and wolves live together, as one. We will be honored if you lived in the town with us, if you ate with us, if your children studied with ours. I think it’s about time we accept the fact that, no matter how we look or act, we are all the same at heart. I hope that the wolves and humans can live together, as friends.” The mayor completed his speech and sat down, waiting for an answer.
“I must say I agree with you. This animosity has gone on long enough. In battle, we have proven that humans and wolves can stand together and fight as one. There have been misunderstandings that could have been avoided. These misunderstandings resulted in the death of many who had a lot left to live for. I agree with you. I will sign the treaty. We will coexist peacefully, as friends. The wolves will offer you protection. I know this will be difficult, both sides have killed the other. Those that have lost their loved ones might find it hard to adjust to this, but I hope eventually, humans and wolves will live as one,” Dominque said.
The treaty was brought, which Dominque and the mayor read and then signed. The mayor reached to shake Dominque’s hand and said, “I hope for nothing more than years of friendship.”

Isabella was helping Elder Lawson come up with a plan to train the new children into becoming warriors. She was now also actively participating in redesigning better armor and strategy planning in case someone like Luther showed up again. Even though the necklace had been returned to the Seer, Isabella wanted to be ready. She was in the middle of a discussion when Dominque and Taylor returned.
“How did it go?” she asked.
“As well as it could have. Forget that for now. Come with me,” Dominque said, taking her hand. Isabella frowned and followed him. He took her out into the forest and pulled her towards the memorial stone. Isabella frowned, wondering what it was. He pointed at the bottom of the stone and Isabella turned her attention to it.
There it was. Engraved. Her father’s name. Along with the rest of the warriors.
Isabella stood there, tears in her eyes.
“Dominque. This means so much to me,” She whispered.
“Then marry me,” Dominque said. Isabella turned around to find him on one knee holding a ring in his hands.
“Dominque…” Isabella whispered shocked.
“Marry me?” he asked again. Isabella felt her heart swell with love, and she just nodded.
Dominque stood up, laughing, and pulled her into a deep kiss. She knew in her heart, that they would be together forever.
